History of Motor Row Brewing
In 2014, Bob Lassandrello with his son Frank, built a world class brewing facility in the historic Motor Row neighborhood. Their philosophy was simple, but not easy: brew a high quality, drinkable selection of lagers and ales, access the finest ingredients as locally as possible, and invite the city of Chicago and beyond to discover what they already knew. .. MRB brews damn good beers, and Motor Row is a fascinating place to enjoy them.
In 2019, Jim Koblish joined the Motor Row Brewing team as our head Brewer. His roots are in distilling, working in such places as Journeyman in Michigan and Quincy Street Distillery in Riverside, Illinois. From there, he branched out into brewing where he continues to win awards for his work. As head Brewer at Peckish Pig in Evanston he won two Illinois State Silver Medals for his Strawberry Gose and his Session IPA.
Luckily for us, when Kolbish changed lanes from distilling to brewing, he decided to park his talents at Chicago’s Motor Row Brewing. He’s made his brewing debut with a limited release beer, the Speed Demon – an imperial stout brewed with Cacao Nubs and Sputnik Coffee. He also recently launched a super juicy hazy IPA, The Parking Lot Party, which has been quoted from a MRB fan as “the best Hazy around…”
Jim shares Motor Row’s passion for locally sourced ingredients, cutting edge craft beers, and is thrilled to have the opportunity to create those things in Motor Row’s unique space.
